question about widescreen dvd's

I love widescreen but I have a question. Even on a widescreen tv you still sometimes have the bars on top and bottom. why is that?

That is normal of any widescreen dvd. I hear people all the time saying they can't watch like that but that is all in their head and they are concentrating on seeing those bars instead of enjoying the movie the way it supposed to be seen.

but on some widescreen movies it fills the tv and some don't. I don't know why. I'm just trying to understand why on a widescreen tv some widescreen movies fills the full screen but others don't.

I hate having the argument on why wide is better than fullscreen over and over again so that isn't even an issue, it is just trying to understand if it is a widescreen tv why not every widescreen movie doesn't fill the screen.

May want to check your settings and see if the screen ratio has been switched, or if it is a double dvd with full and widescreen both on one disc that you are playing the right one, or if they are rentals make sure you are actually getting widescreen editions.

I have the proper setting on the dvd player and I'm am playing a widescreen movie

My particular set has many screen options from cutting the size in half to filling the screen. Read the manual that came with your set to see if an adjustment is required.
